Red alert lifted across Kerala; Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Alappuzha to remain alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has withdrawn the red alert that was previously issued for several districts across Kerala following an improvement in weather conditions. However, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Alappuzha continue to remain under close monitoring as authorities have advised residents to stay alert due to the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in isolated areas. Although the overall intensity of the monsoon has reduced, precautionary measures remain in place to ensure public safety. District administrations have instructed emergency response teams, disaster management authorities, and local self-government institutions to remain prepared for any weather-related emergencies. Residents living near rivers, hilly regions, and low-lying areas have been advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, and follow official weather advisories. Authorities are also closely monitoring water levels in rivers, reservoirs, and vulnerable locations to minimize the risk of flooding or landslides. Officials have assured the public that relief and emergency services remain on standby to respond promptly if weather conditions worsen. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed through official updates issued by the India Meteorological Department and the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority. The district administration has emphasized that continued public cooperation and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to reducing the impact of adverse weather conditions and ensuring the safety of all residents.

4 shops gutted, 8 hurt in fire in Pathanamthitta

A major fire broke out at the central junction in Pathanamthitta town, causing extensive damage to commercial establishments and injuring eight people. According to preliminary reports, the fire is believed to have started in a banana chips-making shop before rapidly spreading to nearby shops after an LPG gas cylinder exploded. The blaze quickly engulfed surrounding buildings, destroying four shops, including food outlets and a bakery, and creating panic among shopkeepers, customers, and local residents. Fire and Rescue Services from Pathanamthitta, Konni, and Adoor rushed to the scene with multiple fire engines to contain the flames. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where most received treatment for burn injuries, while one seriously injured person was referred to a higher medical facility for specialized care. The prompt response of emergency personnel and the quick evacuation of people from the area helped prevent further casualties and minimized the spread of the fire. Following the incident, district authorities initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage. Officials indicated that safety measures related to LPG usage and fire prevention would be reviewed to help prevent similar incidents in the future. The affected shop owners have appealed for financial assistance and rehabilitation support to recover from the significant property and business losses caused by the accident.
